Design is not for philosophy, it’s for life.

– Issey Myiake

Design is a way we live our lives, not something saved for the select few. Everything we see has a design, good or bad, intentional or not.

You might be seen as a beatnik, prep, hipster, nerd, but I’m not big on labels (I might be every one of these in a given day!). when we put ourselves in boxes, we limit our ability to find happiness and reach beyond what we already know we’re capable of. Well, it doesn’t matter what you are…

Design is for everyone!

If you’re thinking you’re not the designer type or connect with those that seek “trends”. Or maybe you are, but feel lost when it comes to your own style… you’re in the right place! It’s important to understand that making meaningful design choices is not the same as being materialistic or trendy.

Some people are attracted to buying new things, but the same urge is there for those that rearrange their furniture 10 times a year (oh wait, is that just me??). Our minds are programmed to be attracted to change, to something different, and it’s this act of finding change that can bring us a lot of joy. Instead of the short-lived thrill of shopping however, there are many intentional changes you can make that will have lasting impacts.

Optimizing your space allows you to be your best self.

What if I told you there was something else going in your space… that a few small changes in placement or mindset could change the energy in your environment and bring lasting joy? Would you call me a hippie? Perhaps a Buddhist? Maybe even a quack?

Fun fact: “Quack” originated from the Dutch term “Quacksalver”- One that practices home remedies; later to be modified as one performing false cures.

I’d say there’s a lot more going on with the energy around you than what you see with the naked eye. Many cultures have embraced this concept for thousands of years, and us Westerners are just a bit behind.

Have you ever heard you can hold your hand in an ice bath almost twice as long if you do it with a smile? There is a lot of science behind this notion of a connection between the internal and external. The same concept goes with design, where a few external changes can be life-changing for your overall balance and harmony.

You can elevate your nest.

Just like a bird setting up their new home, we build our own “nests.” Both birds and mammals experience the biological urge known as ‘the nesting instinct’. Besides the act of providing a physical shelter, this behavior is also a means of creating comfort.

Generally, each species has a distinctive style of nest; some are very elaborate and communal, while others are simple and grounded in their surroundings. Whatever your nest might look like, it should bring you that same sense of comfort.

So, whether you’re a Taoist or Catholic, outsider or influencer… take the next step to elevating your space and bringing balance and harmony to your life by following my blog!

I’ll be sharing tips and insights for practical and impactful changes, and then you can try things out on your own. You may not find the secret to enlightenment, but making a few small changes in your life to increase your well-being never hurt! Looking forward to joining you on this journey.

Carpe Diem!
